Congratulations! you’ve decided to become a certified diver, so now it’s time to enrol in the PADI Open Water Course!

First, we need to check that you have no pre-existing medical conditions which may an issue while scuba diving. All being, well and assuming you can complete a basic swim test, you can get started!

During the course you will complete five theory modules to give a good grounding in dive theory and safety. Mixed in, will be five shallow water training sessions in our beautiful bay (also referred to as ‘confined’ water sessions) where you will learn the safety skills to become a confident and competent diver.

Once we have established your basic safety skills, the fun steps up a gear with the four open water dives!

The first two dives will be down to a maximum of 12 meters. Now, you will really start to appreciate the idea of buoyancy control, while discovering some fantastic marine life.

Open water dives three and four will take you down to a maximum 18 meters and, whenever possible, we like to venture out of the bay so that you can see some of Dahab’s other great dive sites.

Once certified, your PADI Open Water Diver card will open up many of the world’s diving destinations for you to discover!

Duration 3 to 5 Days

Ages from 10 years up

If you want to maximise the time actually diving on your holiday, you have two options of completing some of the Open Water course before heading out to Dahab.

One option is to complete the PADI online ‘eLearning’ program. This lets you complete all the theory modules and even sit the exam in the comfort of your own home. Once you arrive at Sea Dancer, we do a theory review and then you can get straight into the water for the fun stuff!

While this option doesn’t make the course significantly shorter, it does mean you have more time to relax on your holiday.

The other option is to sign up with a local PADI dive center and complete the theory and five confined water sessions near to where you live. When you come out to Dahab all we need to do is complete a quick knowledge review and some in-water safety skills before we head out into the sea for the four open water dives.

This second option is normally completed in two days.

PADI Open Water Diver

The PADI Scuba Diver course is an abbreviated version of the PADI Open Water Diver course for those who have less time to get certified, or for those who, for some reason, cannot finish off the full course.

The Scuba Diver Course is the first 3 theory modules, the first 3 confined water training sessions and the first 2 dives of the Open Water course.

This certification is to a maximum of 12 meters and all subsequent fun dives have to supervised by a PADI professional. A Scuba Diver can always upgrade to a full Open Water certification at a later date.
