Mashraba Reef<\/h4>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t

\nAt the southern end of Dahab bay is \u201cMashraba\u201d reef. Often overlooked as a dive site, it seems to throw up more surprises than other dive sites.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t<\/div><\/div><\/div>

\r\n\t\t\t

The sandy slope leads past a couple of interesting statues and beyond to a magnificent \u201cbommie\u201d called Roman\u2019s rock. This coral pinnacle it just teeming with life and it\u2019s possible to just spend most of your air just circling around it and enjoying the coral and the many critters living there.<\/p>\n

For the more adventurous, we head south and continue on to some vast coral formations. Those with their deep diver qualification can continue down the exciting swim-through at around 36 meters.<\/p>\n

Beyond the coral mounds, be encounter a \u201cfamily\u201d of beautiful table corals extending up the sloping sea floor to around 20 meters. Air permitting, you can continue on to an impressive gorgonian fan, before turning at a pinnacle swarming with glass fish and anthias, and then returning along the shallow reef.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t

Napoleon fish, large groupers, rays, turtles and often found here.<\/p>\n

For divers who are good on air we often complete this dive by returning to the front of Sea Dancer while looking for the sea-horses which live in rolling sea-grass hills along the way.<\/p>\n

At the entry point you will see the nearby bridge which spans the dry river bed known as a \u201cWadi\u201d Every few years rain brings flooding which causes the river to run and this brings tons of sediment into the bay. While this sediment causes much damage, it\u2019s interesting to see how the corals recover from this natural occurrence.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t
