Abu Helal & Abu Telha

Explore the reef less travelled! When conditions are right, both Abu Helal et Abu Telha are up there with Dahab’s most famous dive sites

Abu Helal and Abu Telha

Two great dives for coral reef lovers. Be surrounded by gorgeous and colourful coral!

Abu Helal

Abu Helal may not be as famous as neighbouring sites, but if conditions are right (no wind and high tide) it is a fantastic place to dive.

The corals around the entrance lagoon are stunning; this leads us left to the expansive coral gardens. Fewer divers seem to suit the larger marine animals and there are more sightings here of the rare and unusual.

If you head straight out from the shore you will eventually come to the “small canyon” at around 30 meters. This canyon stretches along the sea bottom and is potentially hazardous due to its depth, narrowness of entry/exit points. It is easy to disturb the sediment on the floor of the canyon and should not be attempted by recreational divers, or those without the proper training and equipment.

Abu Telha

Abu Telha has a similar entry to Abu Hela so is not as commonly dived as many other of Dahab’s dive sites, but when diving here is possible it’s a very rewarding dive.

The entry point takes straight to a coral garden which follows a gradual slope down to 30 meters. We then loop around to the south and shallow up while heading back to our exit at our entry point. Many sort of fish and coral can be found here, but it is especially famous for it’s large schools of Red Toothed Trigerfish

Like Abu Helal there is a deep canyon here which should not be attempted by non-technically trained divers.
